Rubric week 6

Hi everybody again,

This was a really useful activity for me.
I searched the net for as many rubrics that I could, analyzed them and started thinking about one that could be useful for me and everyone else doing the same kind of activity.
It has already been a long time that we talked at work about preparing standard rubrics for different skills so that all our teachers would use the same system in order to get the same results. Finally this course gave me the opportunity to start it at once and as I got nice comments on what I did and also I found really good rubrics you all posted. All these rubrics you created will help us a lot to make this job faster than we thought.

Thanks to you all.

  1. Dear Raphael,

you are so right in suggesting that one of the (numerous) benefits of this course is that it motivates us to actually try out things we have been thinking about doing for some time - like rubrics in your case. This is already you acting as a trainer-to-be - passing the knowhow to others. This must be a rewarding feeling!

    Best regards,

  2. hi Raphaël,

It's great that you discussed among colleagues this question of a homogenous system of evaluation. In our institution everybody agrees that assessment is a big issue , but nobody is ready to back down on what s/he is a personal prerogative and make concrete proposal to solve this problem. Moreover, students if asked would say they didn't know which objective criteria they are assessed on and this is essential if we want them to improve their communicative competence. This week I got a lot of arguments to counter teachers' resistance and like you I will try to convince them that rubrics are objective ways to assess our students' skills.

  3. Hi all,

I do agree that assesment, especially, an unified assessment is a difficult problem to solve. However, if all the teachers of the instutution agree on specific ways of assessemnt this will make the specific forms of assessment objective.
